FATAL MOTOR SMASH

Car Crashes Into Bank WOMAN DRIVER KILLED PASSENGER IN HOSPITAL A fatal motor smash occurred at Hatuma this afternoon. Skidding in the loose metal at De La Haye’s corner on the Hatuma Road, a car driven by Miss Hilda Ellen Peacock crashed head-on into a bank. Miss Peacock was fatally injured. A passenger, Mrs. W. U. Fisher, sustained injuries which necessitated her removal to hospital. The accident occurred about 1.30 p.m. Dr. Raymond was summoned and the ambulance went out to the scene. The car was extensively damaged. The! smash occurred at a corner in a dangerous dip in the road. Miss Peacock was formerly associated with her sister, Nurse Peacock, in control of a private hospital in Waipukurau, and was well-known throughout Hawke’s Bay. Lately she had been living in retirement. Mrs. F. J. Witherow, Waipawa, is another sister.
