OTAKI SEAT
MR W. H. FIELD RETIRES ANNOUNCEMENT YESTERDAY After a political career which began in the first year of the present century, Mt W. H. Field, M.P. for Otaki, has decided to surrender his seat in the House of Represemtatives. The announcement of his retirement yesterday coincided with his seventy-fourth birthday. ; "Much as I regret the move-—for I am very fond of the old district —I have been wanting for some time to retire,’’ Mr Field told "The Dominion” last night. "I am getting on now and find that I would like to give way to a younger man." A meeting of Ithe party delegates to choose the National Political Federation candidate for Otaki will be held, probably at Paekakariki, in three weeks. It was stated yesterday that j Mr G. A. Monk had consented to al- , low his name to go forward for nom- | ination. Mr A. B. Sievwrlght, of Wellington, has also consented to submit himself for nomination by the National Political Federation. SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT (Per Press Association) BLENHEIM, Last Night. The Waikawa Committee of the Maori National Political Federation is convening a conference at Picton of representatives of all Native settlements in Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and the Sounds with a view to selecting an official candidate for the Southern Maori seat. It is believed that at least two candidates are in the field in the party’s interests at the present itime. FOR WAIRARAPA Mt J. W. Card (Mayor of Featherston) has bene chosen by ballot as (the National Government candidate for Wairarapa as the coming general election. The other nominee in the ballot was Mr H. F. Toogood C.E. (Wei- > lington).
