HUNT CLUB POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE The Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club held its point-to-point steeplechase meeting at Mangateretere on Saturday afternoon. The weather was delightfully fine and there was quite a large attendance. The course was laid out over good hunting country with ploughed land, pasture and a variety of obstacles, the final being a log fence. The jumping was good, there being compaiaiively few falls, though in two out of the three steeplechase events a fall occurred at the last fence and in each instance spoilt what would have otherwise been a very close finish. The course was less heavy than plight have been expected, and this contributed to what was on the whole a really good exhibition of jumping and good racing. The quality of the hunters competing was distinctly good, and it will not be very surprising if more important victories come to each of the three steeplechase winners, for all are well bred and are good jumpers, with as yet, no experience of racing. TTie following were the results: — Lightweight Steeplechase (minipium weight, list. 71bs., 2J miles). — Mr. E. W. Symes’s b. g. Salon (owner) 1; Mrs. A. P. White’s br. m. Mausim (Mr. H.
