“TRIVIAL’’ PROSECUTION
MAGISTRATE'S COMMENT
(Per Press Association).
WELLINGTON, This Day
Garbed in burlesque police uniform and wearing a false beard and moustache a man rode a penny-farthing bicycle through Wellington streets as a picture advertisement.
A prosecution to-day was dismissed by the Magistrate, Mr. Luxford, as trivial.
The police view was that it brought the uniform into ridiciHe.
Mr. Luxford replied that the Act was intended to prevent impersonation not burlesque, without which life would be very flat. If the jiolice were to be exempted from burlesque special legislation would have to be passed.
