MAORI CHOIR CONCERT
ON FRIDAY NIGHT IN MUNICIPAL THEATRE Who does not know the good old darky melody ‘'Carry Me Back to Ohl Virginny”? Its beautiful melodious strains and its words so full of pathos never fail to claim many sympathetic listeners wherever it is sung as a solo. But to hear this lovely song harmonised and sung in four parts adds tremendously to its wonderfui appeal. Added to this is the important fact that on Friday night in the Municipal Theatre it is being sung by the Maori singers who are gifted by nature with such wonderful voices.
The peculiar element in the Maori voices seems to enter so harmoniously and naturally into this favourite song,, that it is the easiest thing in he world to think you are really being “Carried back to old Virginny” whilst it is being sung.
To hear the altos, tenors and basses humming a delightful melodious accompaniment while the sopranos sing the verses makes this very attractive number appear like a glorious lullaby.
The Korongata Maori Choir is no ordinary combination of singers. They are specially gifted by nature as choristers and with their wonderful gift for harmony being carefully developed under the direction of Mr J. Bewley there has been produced in Hawke’s Bay a choir that is a credit to the district and a source of pride to all who take an interest in the Native race.
Do not fail to hear the very attractive programme this talented organisation will present at the Municipal Theatre on Friday at 8 p.m. Popular prices, 3/-, 2/- and 1/- (plus tax) are being charged and reserves and day sales for all tickets are now available at the booking office —L. Hawke and Co. Ltd.
