SCHOOL. COMMITTEE MEETS INCREASED ATTENDANCE (From our own Correspondent). At the usual monthly meeting of the Onga Onga School Committee Messrs Baker and Spackman were granted leave of absence ,and Mr E. Bibby occupied the chair. Accounts totalling £ll were passed for payment. » It was decided to obtain cleats for the window ropes. The headmaster, (Mr J. F. Bell) was authorised to obtain full particulars concerning the proper louvred box to hold the weather*recording instruments. The floor of the girls’ shelter shed is to be repaired. The headmaster reported that the roll had reached 70. There were still a few exclusions due to measles, but otherwise the attendance had been good. Personal Mr W. Ross has found it necessary to enter the Waipukurau Public Hospital for treatment. Mr and Mrs B. Diamond are spending their annual leave with relatives in Hastings. Mr H. Baker, who entered the hospital last week for further treatment, returned back to-day. Mrs C. H. Beuck is at prescnr a patient in the Waipukurau Public .Hospital. SCHOOL LECTURE NAVY AND PATRIOTIC TRADE Mr Robert Darroch, secretary to the Navy League (Wellington) paid a visit to the Onga Onga school on Thursday, and addressed the children

I on “Empire Trade,” the visit being much appreciated. J Mr Darroch, who was accompanied I by Mr H. A. Martin, of Waipuku ran, was introauced to the assembled school-children by the headmaster, Mr J. F. Bell. In his talk, Mr Darroeh interestingly referred to the necessity of a protective British Navy as a sea-polic-ing agency and not as an attacking force

The speaker of Empire trade, pointing out the advantage of buying New Zealand and Empire products when these are available.

At the conclusion of the impressive address, Mr Darroeh showed a series of Empire marketing posters as samples of the type of buying he had been discussing.

The speaker was thanked by Mr Bell, and a hearty vote of thanks was carried by acclamation.

Four H.M.S. Victory copper medals tverc given for competition for the four host essays, to be written hy the pupils, on the subject of Mr Darroch’s address. Later the visitors were entertained Rt morning tea by the school staff.
