WEDDING

BROPHY—-BEACHEN

CEREMONY AT WAIPAWA

A very pretty wedding was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church, Waipawa, on Wednesday by the Rev. Father O’Donnell, when Thomas, son of Mr and Mrs P. Brophy of Pungarehu, Taranaki, was married to May, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs George Beachen, of ‘‘Hilldrop,” Elsthorpe. The bride made a very charming picture in her bridal frock of magnolia satin duchesse, cut on princess' lines, with diamond-shaped panels of angelskin lace at the corsage. The long, puff sleeves were finished with shirring. A panel of satin falling from an intricately-cut bow formed a graceful train. A beautifully hand-made Brussels lace veil, lent by the bride’s cousin, was caught to the head with orange blossoms. She carried a beautiful sheaf of white chrysanthemums and maiden hair fern.

Miss May Brophy, of Pungarehu, attended the bride and was dressed in a beautiful frock of jonquil georgette, cut on long, slim lines fully flared from the knee. A gorgeous design of orange and nigger-brown velvet .-.narked the knee and hip lines and over this was worn a cape coatee with frilled epaulettes and spray to tone. A close-fitting hat of velvet flowers, long lace mittens and satin shoes completed a very charming toilette. Her bouquette was of gold and cream chrysanthemums.

Mrs Beachen, the bride’s mother, was dressed in a handsome bottle- ; green wool ensemble with smartly-cut swagger coat and touches of gold. She wore a green felt hat and carried a posy of violets and African marigolds. Mrs Brophy, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a beautiful frock of royal blue crushed velvet, with fawn georgette trimmings, and a felt hat to tone. Her posy was of violets and daphnes. Mrs Gleadow, sister of the bride, wore brown pebble crepe trimmed with mustard, and a small brown hat to match. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr P. Leahy, of Opunake. After the ceremony about 60 guests were hospitably entertained at “ Hilldrop” the home of the bride’s parents, where the usual toasts were honoured. The health of the newly-married couple was proposed by Mr M. Ryan, and responded 'to by Mr T. Brophy. Mr J. Sutherland proposed the health of the bride’s parents, and Mr Priest of the bridegroom’s parents. Many beautiful presents were received by the popular couple, who also were the recipients of scores of telegrams from distant friends.

Later the happy couple left on a tour o£ the South Island, the bride wearing an ensemble of marine blue clpth, the frock being trimmed with fine radiating pin tucks and insets of ivory pebble crepe. The full-length coat of military design had of chrom-

ium steel, a cross-over scarf, and epaulette shoulders. With this was worn a blue felt hat with shoes and stockings to tone.

The future home of Mr and Mrs Brophy will be in Pungarehu, Taranaki..
