That Elusive “Thousand.”

When Jack Mills, the New Zealand representative batsman, scored a fine double century for Eden in a club game two weeks ago it seemed certain that he would register his 1000 runs for the season, as he was then within thirteen runs of his objective, and had at least two games in which to play. At North Shore last Saturday he was dismissed without scoring, so that his chances were reduced by half. The same bad luck is dogging H. G. Vivian, of Parnell. Two weeks ago he was within 101 of his “thousand,” and after two innings his position is in no way improved.
