There are several cases of whooping cough in the Onga Onga district, but as these are in. isolation it is hoped other families will not suffer. ’ Bees in Possession. An unusual experience was the lot a large congregation at St. Luke’s Church, Hinds, on Sunday morning for the monthly family service. Owing to three swarms of t#es having taken up their .quarters in the building, the service was conducted outside under the shade of trees . The ceremony included two christenings, faithfully performed despite the unorthodox setting. Bequest to Waipukurau Hospital. .The secretary-treasurer of the Waipawa Hospital Board, Mr P. R. Smyrk, to-day received from Messrs Carlisle, McLean, Scannell and Wood, solicitors, Napier, on behalf of the trustees in the estate of the late Sir Robert Douglas Maclean, whose death occurred four years back, the sum of £lOOO bequeathed to the Waipawa Hospital Board in terms of his will. Circus in Town. The arrival of the circus in town is always an occasion of interest, and there was a fairly large crowd at the railway. station this morning to watch the free show given by the elephants unloading the trucks. The “star turn” was provided by one big elephant engaged in shunting ten or more large railway trucks —a task which he per-.' formed with nonchalant ease. Radio Fund Appeal. The, appeal on behalf of the Waipukurau Hospital Radio Fund, in Takapau, has been organised and within the next few days a door to door canvass will be made with a street colection on Saturday by the local young women, states the Takapau correspondent of the “Press.” * It is hoped that the public will respond liberally and help this laudable object . Any person who may be over-looked or fail to get an opportunity to subscribe can leave a donation with Mr W. Cuthbertson, the Takapau representative. War Relifef in Takapau. The monthly meeting of the Takapau branch of the Hawke’s Bay War Relief Association was held on Monday night when the following were present: Messrs E. F. Stubbs (chairman), J. Caughley, J. W. Cato and W. Cuthbertson. Apologies were received from Messrs. N. M. Paulsen, A. W. Cook and G. S. White. A heavy file of correspondence was dealt with, a number a small grants to men on the road were approved, and two cases were recommended to the Hawke’s Bay executive for grants. ’ ■ . A ' . • . v. Elsthorpe School Committee. At a meeting of the Elsthorpe School Committee held on Monday night, there were present, Messrs A. McGaffin (chairman), Macaulay, Sutherland, Priest and Duncan. The head teacher reported that two new pupils had been admitted and the roll at present was 43. The chairman advised that he had had an offer from Mr Stanley Warwick to stage a play in Elsthorpe in aid of the school funds. It was decided to accept Mr Warwick’s offer, and to suggest a date about the end of March, or in April. A concrete culvert at the school is to be repaired; also an archway is to be erected at the entrance, and the grating at the doorway repaired. Waipukurau Ewe Fair Messrs De Peliehet, McLeod and Co. Ltd., have received instructions to offer at the Waipukurau Ewe Fair on Friday, February 9, the annual drafts from the following:—Omakere Station:. 600 2-tooth ewes; Oneroa Station: 136 6 and 8-tooth ewes, 725 5-year ewes; Motere Station: 1600 5-year ewes; Te Awa Station: 300 2-tooth ewes, 400 5-year ewes; C. Pattison, Waipawa, 620 2-tooth ewes, 100 4 and 6-tooth ewes, 750 5-year ewes; E. E. Gilbertson, Waipawa: 220 2-tooth ewes; Peacock Bros., Waipukurau: 550 5-year ewes; R. Holden, Makotuku: 400 2-tooth ewes, 500 5-year ewes; S. West, Porangahau: 250 2tooth ewes. • .
