DEFEATS NAPIER The first fifteen of the Napier Boys’ High School was decisively beaten by the Palmerston North High School fifteen by 16 points to five in the annual fixture for the Polson Banner, played at McLean Park, Napier, yesterday afternoon. The visitors possessed a faster and heavier set of blacks, which completely gained the upper hand in the second spell, Napier's forwards were a good pack, while the ffiacks offered a good defence, the tackling being especially good in the second spell. NAPIER v. WAIPUKURAU Fast and open Rugby was exhibited in the curtain-raiser, in which the Napier Boys’ High School second fifteen defeated the Waipukurau High School first fifteen by nine points to nil. Napier possessed the more competent set of backs, but they would have been far more effective if they had handled the ball more efficiently. The Canterbury Rugby Union has decided to allow the broadcasting of the Ranfurly Shield match between Southland and Canterbury on Saturday, having concluded arrangements with the Broadcasting Board for the right to broadcast all the remaining matches of the season. The board has agreed to pay a fee of £5O, which the union has promised will be given to local charity. In a memorandum on the subject, the union states that it has been the considered opinion of the union that any privilege granted the Broadcasting Board in respect of football matches should be paid for, as it is the board’s duty to provide its patrons with entertainment.
