H.B. WRESTLING
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Wrestling Association was held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms, Hastings, last evening, Mr. S. J. McKee presiding over a good attendance of members and supporters. The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. The latter showed a credit balance of £l5 11/9 and in this respect the chairman said he thought that the association had done very well in being able to show such a profit on the year's workings, especially in view of the present conditions. The election of ofllcers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. G. A. Maddison (re-elected); president, Mr. S. J. McKee; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. R. Mclvor and O. Tong; executive, Messrs. J. L. Dunn, "W. Baillie, E. C. Little, H. G. Apperley, W. Burnett, R. Austin, H. McKay; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. B. Bunny; honorary auditor, Mr A. I. Rainbow; honorary doctors, Drs. Wright, Cashmore, Kitchen and Bathgate. The subscriptions were fixed the same as last year. The following new members were elected: F. Hodgins, F. Wall, C. G. Gebbie, S. Higgins, V. Petersen and W. A. Burnett. It was stated that the first batch of overseas wrestlers would arrive by the Maunganui on May 1 and would comprise Jack Paterson, Dr. Hall, “Whiskers Blake” and “Big Bill Beth.” The chairman thought that a batch of four men w<Ts not enough at the beginning of the season. In his opinion eight at least should be sent out so that all associations would have a chance of staging bouts right from the start of the season. Under the present system only the main centres had the opportunity of staging the early bouts. The matter was held over pending the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union. Mr. Croft thought that points should be given for submission falls in amateur bouts. As the rules stood at present, when a hold which would necessitate such a fall was being enforced the hold had to be released. He voiced the opinion that amateur wrestlers should not be allowed to use such a hold until they had three years’ experience. It was stated that such falls were allowed at Auckland. As the matter would come up at the Dominion conference in Wellington next month, it was decided to carry it no further. At the conclusion of the annual meeting the first executive meeting was held. for. S. J. McKee was re-elected to the chair. Several members spoke in highly complimentary terms of the great work that Mr. McKee had done not only for the sport of wrestling, but in all matters of field pastime as well as in matters of more serious nature in connection with the administrative local bodies of Hastings and district. The chairman and Messrs. H. McKay and A. Mclvor were appointed as the match committee for the ensuing year.
