Once in a Lifetime
Recently a Mexican aloe, a native plant of Yucatan, which flowers only once in a lifetime, was in bloom alongside the fountain in the western corner of the Square of Palmerston North, where it had been for 14 years. When it erected its tall spearhead of yellow-green flowers 20 feet into the air, this was taken as its death sign. A little over a month elapsed before it died away comnh toly and last week it was remov'd. Being a large plant, it left quite v gan in the rockery surrounding the onntain.
