C.H.B. Rugby Referees.
The annual general meeting of the Central Hawke's Bay Rugby Referees Association is to be held in Wood’s tearoom on Thursday night at 7.30 o’clock, when members and intending members will be made welcome. The report and balance sheet, also election of officers is to take place. Fire Ravages 200 Acres
The serious fire which broke out on Friday in the big block of flax owned by the Miranui Company, at Shannon has caused considerable loss to the "owners and inconvenience and loss of work to the cutters. The fire fighte s had a most strenuous time and by Saturday night had things well in hand, but not before nearly 200 acres of the best flax in the district was destroyed. The estimated loss in flax is some where in the vicinity of £4OOO besides the value of six months’ cutting to the employees. Tho heavy rain on Saturday night and Sunday morning completed the work of quenching the fire. Harbour Loan Money Transfer. In connection with the Napier Harbour Board's application for authority under Order-in-Council to transfer certain Inner loan moneys for work at the Breakwater, the board yesterday received a copy of a letter from the Prime Minister to Mr W. E. Barnard, M.P., on the matter. The Prime Minister states that the matter will be placed before the Loans Board, to whom detailed information regarding the application is to be made available. The chairman, Mr T. M. Geddis, stated that he had not received further information on the matter, and the letter was simply received. ,
