SELLING METHODS

LOWEST NET COST In a bulletin issued recently by the American Newspaper Publishers' Association, some striking testimony to the merits of advertising appears. The General Electric Company, maker- of G.E. electric goods, states: — “The results secured have taken the subject of newspaper advertising out of the list of debatable questions, so far as we are concerned Wo know it pays us, and we intend to use this class of advertising even more extensively. “The use of newspapers in our advertising localises the message which we present nationally, and enables us to bring it into the atmosphere of each community and refer specifically to the distributors and sales people who arc prepared to deal directly with the public. ” The Grisby-Grunow Company, manufacturers of Majestic Badio, state:— “Newspaper advertising reaches effectively and at the lowest net cost the greatest number of people who can purchase our product. Our experience lias proved conclusively that, newspapers are more responsible for the sale of value merchandise than all other types of media, which are used to supplement newspaper campaigns.” What has brought the pre-eminent value of Press publicity into view of recent years has been the amazing development of the display advertisement, which combines striking impressions in its illustration with psychological effect in its letterpress.—Boland X A. Shelley.
