A MILK WAR
HOUSEWIVES BENEFIT DURING BATTLE AUCKLAND. Last Night. A decision to reduce the price of loose milk to 3d a quart and bottled milk to 4d a quart to compete with the newly-formed Farmers’ and Vendors’ Association was made at a. meeting of milk vendors and farmers. The spirit of the jmeeting was summed up in the words of one vendor “There has been a declaration of war,” he said. “We cannot afford to sell milk at 3d a quart, but we must be prepared to do so for an indefinite period rather than lose our trade.” Mr Haslam said the action of the Farmers’ and Vendors’ Assciation had resulted in an almost imposs'.b.e position. The alternatives were going out of business or fighting against the new position.
