WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

OMAKERE BRANCH THE .MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Omakcre Women’s Institute was held on Thursday. There was a good attendance of members and nine new members wore enrolled. Correspondence and the report and balance sheet were read and discussed. The annual election took place and the elected officers were elected as follow: President, Mrs W. Cole; vicepresidents, Mrs D. Williams and Mrs E. AV. Nairn; secretary Mrs A. Kittow,• treasurer, Mis H. Mawson; committee, Mcsdames Gilbertson, Norris, Saunders Spotswood and Thompson. The potato competition was won by Mrs Aitken with 441bs of well-grown potatoes, Mrs D. Williams being second with 24 lbs., and Mrs Rowe third with 20 lbs. A sponge roll competition was won by Mrs H. Birdsall, Mrs AV. Sutherland being awarded second prize and Mrs G. Y. Lethbridge, third. A dainty and delicious afternoon tea. was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames, Aitken, Moore, Sutherland and Williams. The prize for the best article not costing more thgn 1/- was awarded to Miss H. Mawson, who gained first and second place, Mrs Saunders being third. Community singing of “Look for the Silver Lining” and the National Anthem brought a very busy and successful afternoon to a close.
