“A HUMAN CORK”
A NATATORIAL FREAK WATER WALKING WONDER SYDNEY, January 8. “A human cork” is the term that most fittingly describes Arthur Herbert Bushnell, whose ability to float on top of the water is amazing. Bushnell, who is not a young man •—he is over sixty—discovered a few years ago that he had remarkable buoyancy. You can throw him into the water from any angle or position, tied hand and foot if you prefer it, but the old man will still come to the surface as though he was standing in the street. No Treading Water Standing at the perpendicular, he does not tread his fet to keep himself afloat, but remains perfectly still. He can hold this position for hours at will. Bushnell is indeed a natatorial freak. Walking in the water is easy for him. In fact, any trick of his, mostly unorthodox, is performed without effort. A former solicitor of Nambour (Queensland), Bushnell cannot evplain how he discovered that he could float so easily. “It just seemed to come,” he said. Built on stocky lines, Bushnell, who has spent a great part of his life in Queensland, and is now in Sydney is a fine physical specimen for his age. In his younger days he was an athlete out of the ordinary, being particularly good as a swimmer.
