England To Australia KINGSFORD SMITH’S INTENTIONS WILL PUT IN A TENDER (Per Press Association) ■ TAURANGA, This Day. Squadron-Leader Sir Charles Kingsford Smith has stated that it is his intentioii to put in a tender tor an English mail service this year. He said he would first tender to fly mails between Australia and England and vice versa in a period of two weeks’ with the ultimate object of cutting down the time to eight or ten days. Kingsford Smith met Mrs. H. B. Hewitt, who claims to be the first certificated lady pilot in the world. She got her ticket in 1910. Yesterday Sir Charles took up 19 full loads of joy-riders in the “Southern Cross.” He will arrive at Auckland to-mor-row. The engines of the Southern Cross will probably be overhauled at Christchurch, prior to preparations for the flight back to Australia from Ninety Mile Beach.
