NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS MISS HOWELL IN SEMI-FINALS (Per Press Association) MASTERTON, Last Night. x The North Island tennis championships were continued to-day. In the boys’ championship, singles final J. AV. Gunn (Auckland) defeated I. Bowden (Masterton), 6 —o, 6 —o. Other results were: — Ladies’ championship singles. — Quarter-finals: Miss Howell beat Miss Haggitt, 6 —2, 4—6, 6 —2; Miss Al. Rutherford beat Miss MacAssey, B'—6, 3 —6, 6 —3; Miss Bell beat Aliss Glenny, 6—3, 5—7, 6-—4. Semifinal: Miss AVhyte beat Miss P. Riddiford, 6 —2,"8—1. Ladies' cbamiponship doubles.— Quarter-finals: Misses L. and -AL Rutherford beat Alisses Beetham and V. Rutherford, 6—3, 6 —l; Misses Todd and AVhyte beat .Misses Swainson and Swainson, 6—3, 6—l; .Alisses Macassey and Gould beat .Misses Glenny and Howell, 6 —4, 6 —2. Semi-final: Alisses AVhyte and Todd beat .Misses L. and Al. Rutherford, 6 —4, 2 —6, 6—4. J. AV. Gunn won the final of the B grade men's handicap singles, and Payton and Rishworth (Masterion) won the final of the B grade men’s handicap doubles. The tourney will conclude to-morrow.
