MINERS INJURED

BY EXPLOSION OF GAS ONE DIES IN HOSPITAL SYDNEY, Last. Niijit. Two niiiH rs in the Balmain Colliery were critically injured by an explosion of a gas pocket. David Kerr and Henry Williams were boring- into the rock with a hand-drill when, presumably, a spark from a hammer ignited the gas.. Kerr, despite frightful burns dragged himself some distance to a t(dephone to the engineer nt. the surface. 3000 ft. above. The cage descended and they were brought to the surface. Williams died in hospital. Kerr is still in a very critical condition.
