The Rev. Canon E. D. Rice is afc present confined to his room through ill-health.

Miss J. Ellison, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. A. Ellison, left this morning for Wellington.

Messrs W. McCullough and O. Brown, of the Government Audit Office, arc at present on an official visit to Waipukurau.

Miss Peggy Wright, of Wellington, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs L. G. Harker, Racecourse Road, left to-day for Napier.

Mr W. P. Smith, the local postmaster, is at present in Hawera, whence he Was called owing to the serious illness of his father.

Miss N. Moriarty, of the Savoy Tea Rooms, was taken suddenly and seriously ill this morning, and had to enter the Waipukurau Hospital.

Mr J. V. Richards, who entered the Waipukurau Hospital a few days ago, successfully underwent an operation yesterday and the latest report shows that his condition is very satisfactory.

At a meeting of the committee of the Waipawa County Racing Club Mr T. W. Wills was appointed to represent the club at the County Racing Clubs’ Conference at Wellington next month.

Mr J. Bryce, who underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Waipukurau Public Hospital on Wednesday, has recovered therefrom and is now making good progress.

Mr W. Cuthbertson, Takapau, secretary of the North Island Sheep Dog Trial Association, is attending the annual meeting of the association, which is being held this year in the Gisborne district.

The latest issue of the “N.Z. Gazette” announces that Rose Brassington, Agnes Petrie, Alice May Brooke, Hetty White, Sarah. Gertrude Ann Buchanan, Margaret Helen Ann Buchanan, Edward Kirby Richardson, Edward Richardson, Junior. James Petrie, John Parkinson and Frederick Ellmers, are constituted a special Board by , the name of the Tikokino War Memorial Public Library Board for the control of the reserve set aside as a site for the library building.

At the meeting of the Loyal Dannevirke Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., held on Thursday night, Dr. C. S. Williams, the lodge medical officer, for the past seven years, who was present by invitation, was farcwcllcd on the eve of his departure on a visit to the Homeland for research purposes, was presented with a travelling rug Bro. H. S. M. Quigley, secretary to the Lodge, and other patients of the Doctor expressed their goodwill. Dr. Williams bespoke for Dr. E. F. Boyd late of Norsewood, who is to carry on the practice, the same consideration he had received.
