Von Nida, a lad just qualified from the caddie ranks, won the Queensland amateur golf championship, defeating C. Boyce on the thirty-sixth green. Polished, brilliant play was maintained by the -contestants through out. This was Von Nida’s first appearance in big golf. In the semi-finals he defeated J. Radcliffe, who has been State champion four times. BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP LONDON, May 25. The amateur golf championship is furnishing surprises daily. Crawley, Rex Hartley, W. Hartley and T. Torrence, all nominees for the British Walker Cup team, were all defeated by lesser known players. The last American left in David Martin, was defeated two up to-day by ayoung Cheshire player, Shaw. The Boxing Ring 'COSSILL IN HASTINGS ' Jack Cossill, the Palmerston North I boxer, who is to meet Cyril Thompi son in Hastings on June 3, in the ! Hastings Drill Hall, arrived in Hast- ! ings on Wednesday and is staying i with Mr. Artie Hay, who will take • charge of his training operations j whilst in Hastings. Cossill will train 1 every night ih Artie Hay’s gymnasium | and an invitation to witness him in action is extended to all interested.
