LONDON WOOL SALES

PRICES GENERALLY LOWER

LONDON, May 24.

At the wool sales 11,242 bales wore offered, including 5318 New Zealand. About 5060 wore sold. There was a very poor selection of Merinos and a fair lot of crossbreds. There was a large attendance and fair competition. Considerable withdrawals were made owing to limits not being reached. Compared with April closing prices greasy Merinos were par to five per cent lower, faulty scoured 5 per cent, lower, medium 10 per cent lower, coarse 124 per cent lower.

New Zealand sales: Greasy crossbred, Ngapue, top 74d, average Gd; comeback, Omaka Bend, Bfd; slipe lambs Gear, top Bd, average 7jd.

Local agents have received the following advices concerning the London wool sales:—•

Williams and Kettle, Ltd. — The fourth series of London sales opened on tho 24th instant. Competition is only medium, and prices show a further decline of about LI alb on all qualities of crossbred as compared with closing rates last series at April 22. Values for wools of average style and condicrossbred 4d; medium crossbred, sd; fine crossbred 6d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received London house, under date 24th inst.:— Wool sales: There was a good attendance at tho opening of the sales to-day, competition by Homo and Continental buyers being fairly active. As compared with last sales’ closing rates prices are lower 4d per lb. G'rcasy crossbred: Lower LI to Id per lb., scoured crossbred and crossbred slipe. Crossbred slipe clothing wool slight" easier.
