Mr and Airs J. F. Bell, of Onga Onga have returned "home after spending lb. holiday in other parts of Hawke’s Bay.

Cr. W. Tucker, member for the Clive Riding, was yesterday appointed by the Hawke’s Bay County Council as its -representative on the No. 5 District Highways Council.

Members of the Hawke’s Bay County Council yesterday passed a resolution of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr H. Guthrie-Smith, who died in the Old Country recently. Deceased had represented the Waikare Riding on the council for several vears.

The Hawke’s Bay County Council yesterday decided to place on record, its appreciation of the services of the two retiring members, Messrs G. IlBeamish and N. P. Eriksen, who represented the Okawa and Mcanec ridings respectively.

Jv Sir Andrew Russell, and Mr J. Dooney, the newly-elected members on the Hawke’s Bay County Council for the Okawa and Meeancc ridings respectively, were yesterday warmly welcomed by the chairman, Mr F. B. Logan, when they took their seats at the , annual meeting of the council. Mr Logan said that the ratepayers of the Okawa Riding were particularly fortunate in securing the services of Sir Andrew Russell, and he was sure that the country as a whole would benefit as the result of his wide experience.

Dr. J. W. Craven, of Birkenhead, Auckland, has been appointed medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital. There were 38 applications from New Zealand. Australia and England.
