FAMOUS GOLF FAMILY
THE ROSS RECORD Although many of the golf professionals in New Zealand belong to golfing families it is doubtful whether any can boast a more distinguished international connection than J. W. Ross, of the Hanmer Golf Club. One brother, Alex Ross, a professional to the League of Nations Golf Club at Geneva, first attracted notice in 1919 when he was runner-up for the Welsh cahmpionship. He. was then apprenticed to his father, a “pro” at Aberdovey in Wales. 1923, 1925 and 1926 he won the Swiss Open Championship and in 1930 the Swiss Professional Championship. Another brother, Jack Ross, won the Southern Championship of England before the war, and he is in America now at the Creek Golf Club, Long Island, New York. In New Zealand there is also Lindsay Ross at the Nelson Golf Club, Tahunanui. Mr. J. W. Ross has also a sister who was a “pro” at St. Andrew’s, Scotland, in 1921-22, and several uncles with professional status.. One uncle was Welsh open champion in 1906. .
