HEAVY RAIN ERECTED The following is the weather fore cast for 24 nours from 9 a.in. this day and issued at noon: — The indications are for northerly winds, moderate to strong, later veering by east to south and freshening. Expect dull weather with much mist and fog in parts. Heavy rain.is to be expected. The barometer is unsteady, but shortly rising. UNSETTLED CONDITIONS Following is the Government meteor ologist’s weather report and forecast, issued last night: —
A cyclone still remains centred near Capo Maria Van Diemen, while pressure is high over south-eastern Australia and about Chatham Islands
North-easterly winds at first in the Auckland Province, but otherwise south to south-east prevailing; strong generally north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and reaching gale force in places; elsewhere mainly moderate. Seas rough north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters.
Strong south-easterly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea and rough seas. Weather mainly fair in Westland and south of Canterbury; elsewhere unsettled with further rain and some heavy falls; snow likely on the ranges; fog on parts of the East Coast. ■
