STORM IN TARANAKI

WATER MAIN DAMAGED

HEAVY' SEAS ON COAST

(Per Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. A severe thunderstorm, accompanied by # extraordinary heavy rain and hail, passed over Now Plymouth in the early hours of this morning. A water main at Mangorei was struck by lightning, a great hole being torn in the steel pipe, seriously restricting the water supply. A thunderbolt tore a deep hole in a garden at Mangorei within a few feet of a house.

Heavy seas are running on the coast, but the liners Rotorua and Raranga and coastal and small craft rode out the storm comfortably in harbour.
