BEEP IN OVER-SUPPLY

A large number of cattle were offered in the beef section at Stortford Lodge sale yesterday, a large proportion being plain beef. A draft of aged heavy bullocks was offered on account of G'lsnross Station,

but were passed at the hammer. £7 being the best offer. A large draft of prime cows and heifers was offered on account of Mr Geo Williams. Rangitapu Station, a 'prime Shorthorn heifer from this draft realising £4 32s Cd. The entry yesterday consisted of a very much larger proportion of cows and heifers than, usual, for, during the first hour of the sale, only four pens, of bullocks were offered. Whether this undue proportion of female stock depressed the market or not, it was noticeable that average quality was only realising 9s to 10s per hundred, and extra quality heifer up to 135., Primo ox beef realised 15s per hundred.

Fat Cattle Bullocks: Prime heavy £6 10s to £7; prime light £5 5s to £6; unfinished £4 5s to £4 15s.

Cows: Primo heavy £3 to £4 3s; prime light £2 5s to £2 17s 6d; unfinished £1 7s to £2. Heifers: Prime heavy, £4 to £4 12s 6d; prime light £2 10s to £3 2s 6d; unfinished £1 13s Gd to £2 4s.

Dairy Sorts: Primo £2; unfinished 20s.

Tn this section the pens were well filled with a representative offering, consignments from Poverty Bay increasing the entry. Owing' to the continuous number of mobs coming from that district, feed must be becoming scarce on the usual stock routes.

The special entry of bullocks on account of Mr Alex Leish, Gisborne, arc mostly well-grown P.A. and Hereford bullocks, the journey having taken off their bloom, but a few weeks on Hawke's Bay pastures will soon overcome the effects of tho drive. The market for store cattle was more dragging than recent sales, -a larger number being passed. 90 4-yr P.A. steers on account of Mr A. Leish, realised £3 15s; 47 empty Hereford cows, on account Mr Monck-

ton, Gisborne, passed at 375: 55 21-yr Hereford heifers from Poverty Bay, i.c. to Hereford bull, passed at £2 3s; 50 21-yr Hereford heifers i.c. to Hereford on account of Mr Monckton, Gisborne, a run of 35 at 345; 48 31-yr P.A. steers, on account Mr Alex Leish, a run out of 30 at £3 3s; 40 31-yr Hereford steers on acount of same vendor, passed at £2 15s; 13 3-yr Hereford steers sold at £2 Is; 49 31-yr Hereford steers on account Mr A. Leish, passed at £3 Is; 13 31-yr forward Hereford cross heifers sold at £1 12s; 11 empty cows and heifers, passed at 20s; 2G 3-yr Hereford steers, off the hills, passed at £2 12s Gd; 15 21-yr P.A. cross steers sold at £1 17s. A total of 9000 sheep were included in this section, several lines coming forward that were entered for last sale, but were delayed owing to floods. The line of ewes specially advertised on account of Mr N. AV. Hartgill, Ohurakura, are exceptionally good sheep, being the whole flock from his property. Tho ages were from 2-th to 4-yr-old. The prices realised for these sheep were one of the best averages for the season.

Hartgill, Ohurakura sold at 9s 2d; 326 ewe lambs, on account same vendor Ils 9d; 395 2th ewes i.l. to Romney on account same vendor 17s. 320 4-th ewes i.l. to Romney, on account same vendor, 17s lOd; 402 6-th owes, account same vendor 17s 6d; 274 4yr ewes, on account same! vendor. 16s; 421 4-yr ewes i.l. to S.D. on account Mr G. Nilsson 15s; 244 f and f. wethers passed at 10s. Fat Sheep In this section a thousand sheep were penned. Very few wethers were included in the entry. In sympathy with export prices competition was tint so keen as at last week’s sale. The best price for prime ewes was 7s 3d. Brokers’ Reports The Associated Stock Auctioneers re ports as follows: — To a largo attendance of the public a heavy yarding of beef and store cattle and a moderate yarding of sheep were offered. The following is the range of prices:—• Primo heavy bullocks £6 10s to £7;

THE ADDINGTON MARKET OVERFLOW IN CATTLE ENTRY (Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. Last Night. The entries in the sheep sections were smaller than usual at to-day’s market, but there was an overflow in the cattle entry and store sheep, while there was short entry of both lamb ami adult sheep. The former sold freely at late rates, while both ewes and wethers sold at little change ,but with less freedom than lambs. Prices wore as follow” —Good rape lambs 8s to 9s 7d; ordinary rape Gs to 7s 6d; good ewes to 10s Id, ordinary ewes 6s to 9s; good 6 and 8-th wethers 10s to 12s; ordinary G and 8-th wethers 7s to 0s; ordinary 2-th halfbred 8s to 10s Gd; ordinary 4 and 6th to 9s; medium 2-th halfbred ewes to 14s 9d; ordinary z-th halfbred ewes to 10s Gd; good 4-yr old halfbred Ils 6d to 12s 4d; s.m. half- | bred Gs to 7s 6d.

Fat lambs. —3000 entered in the export schedule had receded a farthing during (he week, but it made little change in values. Extra prime lambs to 20s 4d;-prime lambs to 18s, medium weight prime lambs 13s to Id-; light lambs ! - s to 12s Gd.
