REFORM LEAGUE

<g> WAIPAWA ELECTORAL BRANCH ANNUAL EEPOET SUBMITTED The ■annual general meeting of the Waipawa electoral branch of the New Zealand Political Reform League was held in the Masonic Hall, Waipukurau, yesterday, Mr Chas. Pattison presiding over a very large attendance. Votes of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr George Smales, Mr William Davey and Mr J. H. Kibblewhite were carried in silence. Annual Report The annual report and balance sheet were adopted, the report stating inter alia:— As you know the constitution and rules of the New Zealand Political Reform League, issued some years ago, provided for the establishment of permanent organisations in all electorates and prior to October, 1930, no permanent organisation existed in this electorate. In November, 1930, a small executive was elected and in July last year It was decided to go ahead and organise the electorate as required by the constitution and rules. Nineteen branches

are now established throughout the electorate and these arc in close touch with, the electorate executive. In ad-

dition the Women’s Auxiliary Reform League has branches at Havelock North and at Waipukurau.

During the period covered by this report I regret, to state that the league has suffered heavily by the loss of a number of loyal followers. In particular I refer to the passing of the late Mr John Winlove, Mr J? H. Kibblewhite and quite recently Mr George Smales. Finally I would like to remind you that, while the Coalition Government is in being, I consider it our duty, while retaining our identity, to give the Coalition Government our whole-hearted support. Telegram from Leader A telegram was received from the Rt. Hon. J. G'. Coates, conveying greetings, and expressing the hope that members would continue to hold together and maintain their interest in sound government. Support for Coalition On the motion of Mr F. B. Logan, seconded by Mr Chas Pattison, it was resolved: “That this branch, whilst pledging itself steadfastly to support the Coalition Government, affirms the principle that no steps should be taken to disband its organisation or .educe

its efficiency, and it is fffe opinion of this branch that no activities should be pursued whereby the strength of the Coalition Government may be, impaired or prejudiced; .further, that headquarters bo advised to this effect.” Votes of Thanks A vote of thanks was accorded the president, Mr Chas. Pattison and the retiring executive and the secretary (Mr C. R. Watson) for their past services. Mr Pattison -was re-elected president amidst applause and a strong executive committee consisting of four vice-presidents, 40 executive members and the treasurer was set up. At the close of the meeting opportunity was taken to bid. farewell to Mr C. Nairn of Pourerere, who leaves for England in a few days. .
