Porangahau Notes

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Personal Mrs De Laney is visiting her mother Mrs Baumber, of Lower Hutt. Miss Treacy, infant mistress at the local school is spending the vacation with her parents at Feilding. Teacher Farewelled. At a farewell gathering of pupils and parents, held at the Porangah.au School on Friday afternoon, Miss Ballard, of the school staff, who has resigned to be married, was presented with a handsome salad bowl and cup and saucer from the staff, school committee, parents and pupils' of the Porangahau School. Mr Healey, chairman of the school committee, referred in glowing terms to Miss Ballard’s work as a teacher and wished her every prosperity. Mr Mudgway, headmaster, endorsed all that was said by Mr Healey, and Misses Douglas and Healey made the presentation. Mr T. Kuru, on behalf of the parents of the Maori pupils wished Miss Ballard good luck, and Mrs Colin Scott presented her with a crystal bowl and Maori bag. Miss Ballard suitably replied. A dainty afternoon tea was then served by the parents and pupils of the school.

Rugby Football On Saturday last the Weber football team journeyed to Porangahau, where they played the Wanderers, the present holders of the Nitschke cup, for the Nitschke Cup. The game resulted in a win for Weber by 11 points to 3. The game was ably controlled by Mr Colin Scott.
