FATE OF TARAWERA WOMAN. SEARCH PARTIES UNSUCCESSFUL No trape has yet been fouhd of Mts Himing, who disappeared from her home near Tarawera last Saturday evening. It is reported that Constable Brown and six meu from Taupo, accompanied by six residents of Tarawera, searched the bush country all yesterday, returning at about seven o’clock in the evening, no trace of the missing lady shaving been found. When the Napier police received their report at 7 o’clock last evening Mr Himing had not returned from the search, states the “Herald.” The circumstances of the mystery are that, on Saturday afternoon last, Mr and Mrs Himing were out. together in a clearing not far from their house. Mr Himing, having his rifle with him, left his wife to go in search of pigs. Discovering a large boar, he discharged his rifle and whistled up his dogs in order to track down the wounded animal, thinking that his wife would proceed to the camp. The boar having penetrated further into the bush, he went dow.u to the eamp, when he discovered that Mrs Himing was not there. Nightfall having now approached, Mr Himing returned to the clearing, where he conducted a search of the surrounding bush until late into the night. Next morning (Sunday) he sent word to the police at Taupo and to the postmaster at Tarawera to the effect that his wife had been missing all night. He continued the search the whole of Sunday. When the news reached the police om Sunday evening, it was too late then to commence a search, but on Monday morning a party of public works men and local residents began a systematic search, which was continued until dark last night without the slightest trace of Mrs Himing having been discovered. The search is to be continued to-day, when the Napier police are sending up reinforcements to Tarawera. Unless one has a knowledge of the density of the bush in the surrounding district, also of the ruggedness of the country, it is difficult to appreciate the task which the searchers have before them. It would be quite possible for o searcher to pass within a few feet of a person lying down in the bush without being aware of the fact that a person is near. The country is so rough that the task of searching might be no less difficult with a hundred men to assist in the sereh. With the weather conditions which have prevailed since Mrs Himing has been lost, it can only be surmised that the unfortunate woman has met with an accident, perhaps injuring herself to such a degree that she has been unable to return from the bush.
