HOSPITALS CONTROL
Diversity of Opinions MR CAMPBELL. BEGG CRITICISED BY AUCKLAND BOARD MEMBERS (Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr Campbell Begg’s criticism of the Dominion hospital control system met with varied comment in Auckland. Mr Wffi'i, Wallace, chairman of the Auckland (Hospital Board, said that Mr Begg’s statements were “absolute rubbish/’ and that his proposals “were the most undemocratic” the speaker ever heard of. Dr. F. McGuire, Hospital Superintendent, after defying a number of conditions complained of by Mr Begg aS to lexist in the Auckland Hospital, said that he was afraid Mr Begg was up against a stone wall when he talked of taking the control of hospitals away from local bodies. Dr. Gunson, a member of the Board,' agreed that the average stay of patients in hospital was too long. He also agreed with Mr Begg’s remark with reference to infectious wards, and added that with the glaring defences in , the system, enough charges could be made without turning things upside down. ♦
