WATCHMAN ATTACKED.

BY DEMENTED SOLDIER.

AUCKLAND, To-day. A demented returned soldier, aged 43, an inmate of the Salvation Army Home at Epsom, for the past year, attacked a night watchman there, at 6.30 o’clock this morning, striking him on the head with an axe. An inmate said that the two came to grips, anfl the demented man -would have strangled the watchman if help had not come. The latter was cut over the eye, but the injuries are not serious. His assailant was subsequently committed to the Mental Hospital.
