BANDITS ATTACK TRAIN.
ROBBERY AND MURDER.
MEXICO CITY, April .20. Bandits numbering 500 attacked a train near Guadelajapa.
They first derailed the train, quickly wiping out fifteen Federal soldiers who wore escorting it.
They robbed the passengers, after which they locked the waggon doors, and set fire to the train.
Women and children, shrieking vainly, tried to escape through the windows, but were mowed down by the bandits’ rifle fire. Th victims were, mostly business men with families. A few escaped to wire the news to Mexico City. A large force of troops has been despatched from Mexico City. LATEST DETAILS. (Received this day, 9.15 a.m.) MEXICO CITY, April 21. Some 51 bodies, and 32 injured passengers, were removed to-day from the charred coaches of the train derailed, and burnt at Jalisco by bandits, who are characterised in a Presidential Office statement as '•'Catholic rebels.” A military escort of 50 men fought until all were dead or wounded. The total dead is unofficially estimated at 100.
