The second wool sale of the season opened spiritedly, between 50 and 60 buyers competing and taking 95 per cent of the first catalogue of 4500 bales, in just under an hour. Bidding, though brisk, was erratic, but generally speaking prices were from par to a -half-penny per lb advance on last Napier sale. Better wools showed the biggest advance, due to American competition.’. /Bradford led the market with the Continent running up. France was very active on the better style pieces, and Japan demanded a certain amount of crutchings. Noticeable were the acquisitions of Dominion mills, which came to the fore frequently for style pieces. Southdown fleeces fetched up to 174 d, Romney lambs obtaining up to 154 d, coarse half-bred also up to 151 d, piec(/> and bellies sold well from par to 4d advance. Locks were not much in demand, slipping from par to -Id. Crutchings were on a par.
