The first quarterly meeting of the Waipukurau Fire Board is to take place on Monday night. Several earth tremors .were felt, in Waipukurau last night at S.3S o’clock, hut they were not of serious import. It is notified by the Patangata County Council that the Waipukurau Traffic Bridge will be - closed to all wheel traffic (except light motor cars) from daylight on Wednesday next till fi p.m. on Friday. 17th inst., for icptair purposes. This means that the Lower Gorge Road —Onga Onga —Waipawa Hoad, and vice versa, will have to be utilised for through and WaipukurauWaipawa' traffic requirements. The Waipukurau District Bed Cross Committee is holding a Christmas garden fete at the Pukeora Sanatorium to-morrow afternoon, and it is expected that the function will lie a very successful one. The Waipukurau Operatic, Dramatic and Musical Society has received the wardrobe and scenery recently used by the Eltham Operatic Society in producing “Dorothy.” The property - thus procured is valued at about £l5O. The committee is to meet to-night, when a vacancy is to be filled. * L. Hawke and Co., Ltd., electrical engineers have shifted into more comodious premises in the Mam Street, opposite the Theatre buildings. It is the firm’s intention to specialise in battery work of all kinds and for this purpose they have opened a battery service station fitted with all the latest equipment.
