ENTERTAINING EVENTS.

Heading the bill for to-morrow night at the Waipukurau Theatre is an Australian production entitled “Peter Vernon’s Silence, ,f which is the story of a man ’s love for a man, filmed with the scenic beauties of Australia, as a background. It is a story which will immediately appeal.; Supporting the production will be “The Sideshow of Life.” which is an adaption of William .T. Locke’s justly famous novel, “The Mountebank,” and Ernest Torrence, featured with Anna Q. Nilsson in the production, has the principal role. The story of the clown who joins the army as a private during the war, rises’ to the rank of brigadier- general and finds himself at demobilisation in love with a titled English woman, but after all, just a clown —can you just picture Torrence in such a role 1 ? Every bit of the comedy and pathos that has made so many thusands of people laugh and cry over the book has been put on the screen with all the mastery of Herbert Brcnon. Anna Q. Nilsson is the titled Lady Auridol Daync with whom the, clown falls in love; as usual Miss Nib sson gives a capital performance. Neil Hamilton, who has the prominent juvenile role- in D. W. Griffith’s “America,” heads the supporting east, which includes among others Louise La Grange, Maurice Cannon and Effie Shanon. “The Sideshow- of Life” is more than a motion picture. It is a slice of life itself!
