Mr G. G. Bullock Douglas, of the Auckland . Star staff, has been appointed editor of the Wanganui Chronicle, in succession to Mr Cuthbert East, who becomes editor of the Weekly Press, Christchurch. At a special meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council hold on Monday night for the purpose of considering the applications —three —received for the position of water-pumping mechanic, at a salary of £lOO per annum, Mr S. H. Wood. ex-Borough electrics .1 engineer, was appointed to fill the position. Nurse E. B. Armstrong has resigned from the staff of the Rathbone Maternity Hospital, owing to a serious illness in her family circle, as advised by cablegram from Australia, and at the Hospital Board meeting this morning the chairman’s action in granting leave was endorsed, and the resignation was accepted. The Borough Council at the special meeting held on Monday night passed a resolution of heartfelt sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Paul Hunter in their great loss. His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. A. Goodger) paid a warm tribute to the sterling and kindly attributes of the deceased gentleman, whose valuable services to the commuuitv were remarked upon.
