A Carterton message, per Press Association, announces the sudden death of Air Herbert Henry Knowles, aged’ 54, an old resident of the district, being born at Afatarawa. He leaves a widow and family of three children. The chairman of the Waipukurau County Council was cordially greeted by fellow-councillors on Saturday, on making his appearance at the monthly meeting, there having been some doubt as to whether he would be well enough to attend. hard. ; . j The death occurred in the Waipukurau Hospital yesterday of Air Thomas McDougall, a Tamumu settler. He. had reached the advanced age of 88 years. Air G. F. Roach, of Hastings, who is retiring from the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, after being a member for 16 years, the last nine of which he has been chairman, ;was. congratulated 7 ’ on Saturday by the Alinistcr of Education (Hon.
