BOROUGH BRIEFS.
A meeting of members of the Waipukurau Ladies’ Hockey Club is to be held in St. Andrew’s Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. The Ruahinc range is heavily coated with snow, and the westerly wind prevailing has been creative of bitterly cold conditions. The weather during Friday and Saturday was unusually cold, and the town presented a drab appearance, not only because of the weather conditions, but the unattractive aspect of our highways and paths.' The Power Board has suggested to the Waipukurau Borough Council that the proposed conference in regard to the contemplated purchase, by the former body, of the. Borough electrical plant, be held on Friday afternoon. An extraordinary vacancy has been created in the Borough Council by reason of the approaching departure—within the next fortnight—of Cr A. J. Mathewson’s Ltd., ■Hastings.* It is expected that there will be a; large assemblage of the football and general public at Russell Park on Saturday, when the first rugby representative, match of the season to be played in the Sub-union area, is to take place, viz., East Coast v. Waipawa (other wise Central Hawke’s Bay). Cycling over the traffic bridge at Waipukurau at night, without a light, recently, a young nad named. Carney was overtaken by a motor car, and accidentally knocked over. The lad was taken to the Hospital, where, it was found that he Avas suffering from a compound fracture of the arm. The bicycle was badly damaged. The St. Andrew’s Tennis Club held a successful dance in St. Andrew’s Hall on Friday night. The floor was in g'oocl order, and there was a large attendance. Mr H. N. Murray (hon. sccrc--tary) had matters well arranged. The music tvas supplied by Air K. AlcK&n- ■. zie. Messrs Mitchell and Byford acted as M.C.’s. The supper was provided by the ladies, the committee consisting of Mo'dames Urquhart, Bendcich, Wilson, Ebbctt. and Miss Lindsay.
