BAND CONCERT.

ENJOYABLE MUSIC. On Sunday evening the Dannevirke •Silver Band, assisted by Dannevirke artists, gave a very enjoyable programme of musical items, in the Municipal Theatre. There was a good attendance of the public, and as admission was by way of silver coin, the local band, in whose aid the entertainment was arranged, for the purpose of assisting the new uniform fund, will receive well-needed financial assistance. The Silver Band, consisting of 27 players, under the baton of Bandmaster J. L. Harris, were heard in some very fine numbers, which served to show the high playing standard of the combination. Assisting artists were Mrs C. Mercer, a decidedly gifted contralto, whose tuneful and sympathetic rendering of three ■ very varied solos, was a delight to listen to; and Messrs J. W. Hood (tenor) and H. Ward (elocutionist), both of whom were also responsible for most entertaining numbers. In addition, Mr J. Hood was associated with Mr J. L. Harris, the bandmaster, in a vocal duet, and an extra instrumental item was a trombone trio, played by Messrs Payne, Mclntosh and Willieombe. The accompaniments were sympathetically and efficiently played by Mr ’ C. Lidington. The full programme is' as follows:—Quick march, “Preciosa” (Devery); hymn, “Bradford”; Idyll, “Iloha Oe” (Hawaiian Farewell), Dannevirke Municipal Band; solo, “The Messenger” J. W. Hood; recital, selected, Mr HU Ward; grand selection, “Dor Wildschultz,” The Poacher (Lortzing), Band; solo, “My Dear Soul,” Mrs C. Mercer; duct, “The Battle Eve” (Bonheur), Messrs - J. W.
