BOROUGH BRIEFS.

A concert party is being organised by local musical enthusiasts in connection with the Otan,e celebrations incidental to the formal “switching-on” of Central Hawke’s Bay electric power in that town. A meeting of all supporters of Sir George Hunter, M.P., and the local committee, is to bo held to-morrow evening in Wood’s Tea Rooms, at 7.30. A full attendance of ladies is requested. The Commissioner of Taxes draws the attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day ’s issue, that the date of payment of land-tax for the current year is on Friday, November 6th, 1925, and that the demands will bo posted on or about October 30th. The rain on Saturday afternoon interfered with all sporting activities. In ad dition to the Bowling fixtures here and at the Sanatorium and Waipawa, the winding up of the golf season was to have taken place on Mr Main’s links, but owing to the inclement weather very few were present and the competitions were called off. I Mr C. Corkill, of the local Railway loco staff is on transfer to Taumaranui, and will leave here on Thursday, He has been an active member of the Waipukurau Defence Rifle Club since coming here, and the last two years has been the crack shot of the club. At the 1924 New Zealand Rifle' Championship meeting he held a place in the King’s Fifty and was winner of the tyro aggregate. The local club is very sorry to loose him and wish him every success in his new locality. The Lindsay Dairy, now under the control of Messrs Hanson and Lindsay, advertise in this issue that they v deliver daily fresh milk and cream Mathewson’s, Ltd., have just opened another magnificent Shipment of exquisite Frocks from their ondon representative —absolutely the last word in exclusive Ladies’ Wear.
