DISTRICT NURSE RESIGNS.
“POSITION VERY SERIOUS. ’ ’ HOSPITAL BOARD MEMBER INDICTED. PLEADS GUILTY TO OKFENCE. At the meeting of the Hospital Board tDI-day Nurse Macdonald, of Forangahau f tendered her resignation. The secretary (Mr J. J. East): In this connection, Mr Chairman, I have to make a most serious charge against a Board member. One of the Board members I am told ia responsible for this resignation. Such things should be investigated. By the act I read that: “The oflice of any member of a Hospital Board shall become vacant if the member is convicted 'On indictment or is sentenced by the Supreme Court on a plea of guilty of any offence.” I think one member will have to plead guilty to causing this resignation. Mr Rathbone said that the resignation. was a bomb-shell to the Board, Miss MacDonald had been a most efficient worker and everyone regretted her resignation. The resignation was accepted with regret, Mr Rathbone; Now I think I have to call 'On a Board member (Mr N, G. Hawthorne) to explain why this thing has been thus cruelly sprung on the Board. Mr Hawthorne (who is to marry Miss McDonald on the King’s Birthday) : Well I must plead gu Ity io the offence, I suppose, but I thank you on behalf of Miss McDonald for the kind things you said about her, Mr Hunter: Well, I think Mr Hawthorne has made a wise choice. A good nurse will make a good wife. (Applause). 1 Mr Cook: Olq I see, (Laughter). I thought there was some mystery about it, (Laughter). I must congratulate you.
