ORPHANS’ CLUB.

<s> ANNUAL MEETING, ELECTION OF OFFICERS. ——- The second annual meeting of the Orphans’ Club was held on Fr'day evening i’n Wood’s Tearoom. .there was a good attendance of members and Chief Orphan Bryce occupied the chair. Ten new members were elected. The report and balance sheet for the year were read and adopted. The report was as follows: “The club has a credit bank balance of £3l 5s 8d and a surplus of asset? over liabilities of £37 4s lOd, which in eludes the bank balance and value of the club’s property. “It is very pleasing to see the club's affairs on such a sound footing. We had a very pleasant and successful season although our visits were to a cor ta n extent hampered by local, counted attractions. During the season we visited the Sanatorium, the Danncvirke Orphans’ Clubs and the> combined Napier and Hastings Clubs at Hast ng. We also gave a concert at Onga in aid of the school funds and assisted at the welcome home of the local ‘All Black.' All our programmes were received splendidly. We were visited by ftie Dannev.rke and Hastings Clubs, both of which visits were thoroughly enjoyed by all our members, “AVo had a very successful ladies’ night supplying an enjoyable programme and supper and having a packed house.

“iOur public concert was somewhat hampered by the, failure of the town lighting supply and the. proximity o± the date to Christmas. However, we did very creditably and came out with a credit. AVe followed our usual practice of donating a sum to the Christmas fund for patients .‘n the local hospital!, the sum this year being 5 guineas.

“The committee, wishes to thank all members for their whole hearted support during the past season and es.pec - ally those who in various ways, went to etxra. trouble and expense in assisting the club along. Our especial thanks arcdue to the hon. auditor, to all perform, ers and to our orchestra. “AVe had tbn misfortune to lose, at the end of the season our musical, director, Orphan Spaekman, who has removed to another town. The committee took pleasure in forwarding a litter of appreciation and a small token of our esteem to Orphan Spaekman -ai behalf of the whole club ’’
