Mr Shrimpton, Chief Telegraph Engineer, announces that an order has been placed for a new cable to be laid between the North and South Islands so as to give proper telephonic communication. It will be over a year beftre the work is completed, but the system adopted will permit the people in Invercargill to be heard clearly by tne people in Auckland The Tutanekap will be equipped for the purpose of lay, ing the cable, which will land on the beach at Seddon, Ma'tfborough.
