TAKAPAU. *V _____ (From Our Own Correspondent.'' On Saturday, on the Tak-ipau links, Miss Cameron and A,. E. Anstice won the mixed Sour.ball match. Major AlcBonnell won a four-ball match on the same day, S. Smith being runner-up. A committee meeting of the Takapnu Presbyterian Church was held on Saturday, the Rot' A. Hunt presiding. The report and balance-sheet were submitted to be read at the Congregational meeting to bo held in August. The Rev A. Hunt agreed to give a recital on be. half of the church, and a small committee was set up to carry out the arrangements. It was agreed to put the electric light in the church, Messrs Paulsen/ Caughley and Cuthbertson to attend to it,

PORANGAHAU. (From Our Own Correspondent). “The stay at homes” played the East Coast team at Wimbledon on Saturday. Both teams were very shorthanded. After a good game the “stay at homes” run out victors by 17 to 3. Tries for the. winners were scored by Cook (2), F. Franklin (2), H. Tipenc (1). Tipene convorcted one. For East Coast T. Kuru kicked a penalty Mr P. Wilder very capably controlled the game-. Next Saturday Porangahau will play Wallingford for the Nitsckhc Cup. The game will take place at Porangahau. •'To present the trophies to the winning clubs the East Coast Sub. Union will hold their annual dance at Poragahau on August 22.

* OTANE. (From Our Own Correspondent). A very well known ami highly respected resident, Mjr Allen Mason, passed away at bis residence on Saturday morning. Deceased, who was an Australian by birth, had been in the employ of the late Mr James Tod for a groat many years and later entered tsh® service of Mr R. H .Tod. Some time agfc he -developed consumption and was fo(r sonie'tfme an inmate of the Pukc■®ra Sanatorium. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev G. W. Dav. idson at the local cemetery on Sunday. Deceased /is survived by a widow and two young children, who have the sincerest sympathy of all in their great loss. Next Saturday afternoon the local Arbour Day will be observed. The tree, planting will commence at 2.30 p.m. al the Recreation Ground. Anyone wish, ing to help and to partieipal.e in the tree-planting will please notify local schoolmaster Mr J. Mcßae, Mr Wheeler or Mr Barrie. The school children arc greatly interested and it is hoped to sec a good muscer of adults present." • ,
