[PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.] Received 10 a.m. London, Sept. 23. The Duke of Beaufort is selling his Breconshire estates. Mr Asquith, in reply to Mr Bellairs, said it was not proposed to reduce the number of members of Cabinet. Received 1.40 p.m. London, Sept. 23. During the Budget debate, Mr Barnes, on behalf of the Labor Party, approved of Mr McKenna’s proposals. In view of the special circumstances, he assumed the tas on imported goods was merely a financial expedient and devoid of political significance. His party was prepared to support the Government in any Budget for helping to prosecute the war to a successful issue. He regretted the lower exemption limit, and the increased revenue therefrom would not be proportionate to the hardship inflicted on the earners of £2OO yearly. The party welcomed the taxation on war profits. The Government should have assumed the control of some of these industries long ago. it was now compounding a felony to be sharing the swag. The Labor Party recommends as an alternative to appropriate SO per cent, of the war profits, and protested against the additional taxation of sixteen millions to be levied upon very poor people. The abolition of the halfpenny postage was perhaps the greatest blot on the Budget. TO PIANO-BUYERS. Tho British Piano Industry has an importance much greater than most people realise.
