M. A, Noble, the New South Wales cricketer, has formally notified the Cricket Control Board of his intention to retire from first-class cricket owing to the exigencies of his business. The Board has placed on record its appreciation of Noble’s great services to Australian cricket.

A man named Lyons was drowned while surf-bathing at Newcastle.
Two other bathers had a narrow escape, but were rescued by the Surf Club.
Shortly afterwards sharks tore Lyon’s body to pieces in view of a crowd watching on the shore* Lang knocked Squires out in the seventh round. The fight was tame. The Stadium was packed

Arrangements are being completed to take the Commonwealth census on April 2nd and 3rd of next year. The Bishop of Ballarat has notified his intention of resigning in December. He considers a younger and more vigorous man is needed to deal with the work of the diocese.
