CAPTAIN KNYVETT'S CASE.
Feeling Among Auckland Volunteers.
Auckland, Jan. 12,
Volunteer circles in Auckland are agitated to the exclusion of well-nigh everything else just now over the Defence Department’s decision to dismiss Captain F. B. Knyvett from the defence forces. Opinion is very strong among officers and men. The action of Captain Knyvett’s own company in refusing to attend any more parades until he is reinstated is viewed with general satisfaction, while a distinct spirit of sympa thetic resentment and unrest is manifesting itself in the attitude of several other companies. The meeting of officers of the Auckland Garrison, which was called for the purpose of discussing the dismissal of Captain Knyvett, was abandoned owing to the posting of a general order from the officer commanding the district. A public meeting will be held on Friday evening.
