The Petone Murder.

BOSHER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Wellington, Jan. 25. In the Petone murder case the evidence to-day was mainly in the direction of contradicting Bosher’s evidence as to the two swaggers being seen on Jones’ verandah. Another witness (Mrs Walters) deposed that on the day of the murder Bosher came to her place at Taita and said the reason he had called at Jones’ was to get a parcel of books for her, which the murdered man had promised to send. Subsequently she found that the books had been in the possession of the accused for some time. January 26. The hearing of the charge of murder against Bosher came to an end today. One witness deposed that accused had told him he had received permission from Inspector Pender to carry arms, as he had been waylaid at night.and showed him a sheath knife which h’e carried inside his coat. Inspector Pender went into the box and denied he had. received any such application or given any permission. Counsel for the defence urged there was no more case against the prisoner than against Shore and hinted some third person might ygt be arrested. . *■' The Magisrate said he considered! the case ought to go to a jury. A series of small matters had been prolid so distinctly as to point to Bosher as a guilty person. The defence was reserved and accused was for trial.
